Xiang Cuisine at Serdang Perdana 香菜馆 - Non halal - Sze Chuan style hotpot

This restaurant is not exactly at DeCentrum but it's near. It's opposite South City Mall, Seri Kembangan, around 15mins drive from DeCentrum area.

I've been dining here for few times already but never got a chance to test out their hot pot. Previously me and my friend all ordered dishes only.

Ordering quite straightforward, we were given a list of items for the hotpot. Anything we want can just tick on it to show that we want it. The base soup cost RM 20.

One tip on ordering is to request for garlic, cilantro and sesame oil (its free but only available upon request).

Warning, the red colored soup is extremely spicy. The soup is not for drinking instead it is more for dipping in the ingredients. My friend accidentally drink it and was sneezing and coughing for 10 mins before recovered.

The extreme spiciness comes from the special fire pepper used from SzeChuan.

They have got 2 kinds of hot pot, the Ying Yang Hot pot and the Chong Qing Hot pot. We opted for the Ying Yang hot pot because one of us could not take food that was too spicy.

SPP Book Agency stationary and books

This bookstore/stationary store opened quite some time already. It occupies the entire top floor of De Centrum Mall.

The printing/photostat services inside. They can print color, photos and large size A3, draft paper. There's a cafe inside also for grabbing a cup of coffee. It's a really convenient place.

The company regularly organized children's coloring competition, normally all announce from their Facebook page.

Yemeni Red Tea at Half Moon Restaurant

Today instead of ordering my usual fruit juices, I ordered the Yemeni Red Tea (Shahee Ammar) at half moon restaurant.

They have got small pot (RM3) and big pot (RM6). For 1 person, I suggest go for the small pot. If you want to linger around drinking tea or with a group of 2-3 person, go for the big pot.

The tea was made immediately. It came out piping hot and hints of cloves flavour came out. Upon tasting the tea, you get hints of mint on your tastebuds. Do note that the tea is sweetened and I found lit a little bit too sweet, next time I will ask the server to dail down the sugar content.
Overall the red tea was quite refreshing and energizing. Not so thick and rich as coffee but have similar effects

I checked up the recipe and it's quite easy to make but you need to prepare the spices ahead of time. Eg. cloves, cardamon and mint.

Recipe
Boil water.
Coarsely grind 5 cardamon and cloves in a pestle and mortar.
Add to the water and bring to a rolling boil.
Turn flame down to a low for 10 mins.
Add 1/2 tsp of loose tea.

Retaurant Half Moon is located at the 1st floor of De Centrum Mall.

Malay Nasi Campur Restaurant at DeCentrum Mall

This place is just aptly named as Nasi Campur restaurant. The location is strategically located at 2nd floor opposite SPP book store and just outside the door to De Centrum Residences.

This place is popular with the working crowd and can get crowded during weekdays. The reason is probably this place offers an alternative to all the Indian Muslim (mamak) and middle eastern restaurants in DeCentrum Food is all self service, take whatever you want and order your drink.

Inside the restaurant there is a stall selling Japanese takoyaki (octopus rice balls), I didn't try it as wasn't really in the mood.

  1. This restaurant has got a GredB ratings (A being the best) which is considered ok. The food is all Malay style food so there's tempeh (fermented bean cake), ulam (raw vegetables), rendang , fried chicken, fried catfish.

RM 7.50 + Limau Suam

Price for 3 dishes here cost RM7.50 with limau ais drink. Overall food was ok but I think the nearby Uniten canteen (near the Uniten mosque) is slightly cheaper with similar dishes.

RM 7 + Limau Suam

Do note that this place is not open during weekends. Only open on weekdays.
